“Our minds and the earth are in a constant change of erosion, mental and physical rivers water away abstract banks, brain waves undermine cliffs of thought, ideas decompose into stones of unknowing….” (Robert Smithson)

Inspired by nature, recalling places experienced or imagined as the work forms, creating from a place of no time, no space, no body. All my senses seem to be more alive when I’m in nature, mesmerised by the shear force and complexity of the world around us. My paintings are based on capturing the essence of feelings, emotions and the invisible energy that pervades in the universe, focusing on the landscape in current time and its struggle for survival.

Our minds and the world around us are in a constant state of flux, life changes us leaving marks and traces, but the tension of the moment is gone forever. I use the marks I make, like an impressed memory, trying to recapture the essence of that fleeting moment.

I construct the artworks with multiple layers using pigments and objects found to hand, but at the same time leaving space, for the unexpected to happen. “Water is such a powerful force in shaping the natural landscape and by using the fluidity of the paint in my process, resonates with ways in which the landscape is eroded and formed”.

Jude is a multi-disciplinary artist based in West Midlands, working at the intersection of painting, film, sound & installation. Her practice is rooted in fine art & textiles, studied at Camberwell London, and painting at Beaux-Arts, Paris. An early career as a set designer for the theatre, continues to inform Jude’s current focus on movement, space, light & the creation of immersive environments.

Jude’s work explores themes of memory, time, trauma, and our emotional connection to landscape, often shaped by personal experiences and broader socio-political concerns such as migration and loss. In recent years, Jude has expanded beyond traditional painting into abstraction, sound, and experimental film. Experimenting with 16mm film exposed to natural elements developed organically with integrated soundscapes recorded in the environment to craft multisensory narratives. Collaboration plays a central role now working, with musicians, and poets to deepen the reach and complexity of Jude’s creative visions.
