artist statement
Inspired and fascinated by nature, recalling places experienced or imagined as the work forms, creating from a place of no time, no space. I use marks like an impressed memory, trying to recapture the essence of that moment. Constructing images with multiple layering, but at the same time leaving space for surprise, for something unexpected to happen. I walk the land foraging as I go for materials to use as paint and to make my unique marks born from the landscape.
My paintings are created through a performative process of applying pigments, oils, solvents and water pouring dripping, creating pools, then tilting and manoeuvring the canvas, creating a breeze causing the paint to move. “Water is such a powerful force in shaping the natural landscape and by using the fluidity of the paint in my process, resonates with ways in which the landscape is eroded and formed”.

artist bio
I am a multi-disciplinary artist based in Walsall, working at the intersection of painting, film, sound & installation. My practice is rooted in fine art & textiles, with a BA First (Hons) from Camberwell College of Arts (1975–79), and a year at Beaux-Arts, Paris. My early career in theatre, especially in set design & lighting, continues to inform my current focus on movement, space, light & the creation of immersive environments.
My work explores themes of memory, time, trauma, and our emotional connection to landscape, often shaped by personal experiences & broader socio-political concerns such as migration & loss. In recent years, I have expanded beyond traditional painting into abstraction, sound, and experimental film. I have experimented with 16mm film exposed to natural elements and integrated soundscapes recorded in the environment to craft multisensory narratives; now wanting to go deeper in this field. Collaboration plays a central role across my work, with musicians, poets & editors to deepen the reach and complexity of my practice.
