artist statement
My response to the landscape is immediate and physical — I feel it before I think it. My process begins with urgent, gestural marks made with fluid inks and thinners, scratched into the surface using twigs, sticks, or stones. It is raw, physical, and intuitive — led by sensation more than precision.
Despite a life shaped by frequent moves, my work is rooted in place. I feel a deep, instinctive pull toward the natural world — especially quiet, often overlooked places: paths, riverbanks, the edges of land. I try to reveal the quiet beauty in these spaces through painting, focusing on the everyday and the ordinary.
My work hovers between representation and abstraction. I’m drawn to shape and structure, often reducing what I see to its simplest forms. Colour is central to my practice — I use it instinctively and expressively, frequently exaggerating or shifting it to evoke the feeling of a place rather than describe it literally.
At its core, my practice is an act of listening — to the land, to my environment, and to myself.
