artist statement
From childhood, I’ve been captivated by the peace and beauty of wild landscapes, and most of all by the sky – its shifting colours and the fleeting transitions of light at sunset and twilight. These moments of stillness and wonder have stayed with me, shaping how I see and feel the world.
My paintings are a distillation of that experience. I create atmospheric abstracts that evoke the remembered and imagined landscapes I carry within me, infused with the ephemeral glow of changing light. They are less about depicting a place than about capturing the emotional resonance of colour, space, and luminosity.
My practice begins with time spent in the landscapes I love, allowing myself to be absorbed by their vastness and quiet intensity. Back in the studio, these encounters take form on canvas, filtered through memory and imagination.
Working in oil, I build surfaces slowly with veils of translucent glazes, layering light into the painting so that it reflects and shifts as the viewer moves. This process creates depth, richness, and a sense of luminosity that draws the eye inward, inviting the gaze to linger.
Through my work, I hope to offer an experience akin to watching a sunset – an invitation to pause, breathe and experience a moment of peace and freedom, absorbed in a visceral connection with light, colour, and the natural world.

artist bio
Nikki is an English painter based in Suffolk. She was lucky enough to learn her craft by studying with several world-class artists, including Deborah Paris at the Landscape Atelier. Having always loved art, Nikki initially studied animal behaviour at university; she then attended medical school and pursued a career as a doctor. This experience taught her that life is both too short and too long not to do what you love and makes you feel most alive, which led her to return to her true loves: creating art and connecting with nature.
