artist statement
I work where the wild places are, in the landscapes around me and those held in memory. There is a subtle tension between the terrain I inhabit now and the places that shaped me, and I carry both within me.
My practice is a meditative exploration of these inner and outer landscapes. Walking, observing, and remembering immerse me in place, and I respond instinctively, seeking to translate its presence into something essential.
I use a personal language of marks, lines, shapes, gestures, and textures, arising from deep attention and emotional response. These evolve through layers of charcoal, ink, paint, print, and collage, spontaneous yet considered, visceral yet precise. Subtle layering reflects both emotion and the ancient histories of the land, while bold colour speaks to its strength.
Each piece is both residue and response: an inner excavation shaped by immersion and time. My work sits between the seen and the felt, the remembered and the immediate, minimal, distilled, and emotionally charged.

artist bio
Now living and working in St Ives, the coast and landscape of the South West has a huge influence on my creativity. A brief time spent on the edge of the Peak District and more than 20 years on the West Coast of Scotland allowed me to develop, observe and immerse myself in my subject. I work mainly ‘en plain air’ which provides inspiration and is the very essence of my creativity. My approach is rooted in developing a deeper sense of and connection to the land, sea & elements. And, I often develop work further using alternative techniques in my studio.
Working directly from the subject is what drives my creativity. Immediate responses to land, sea, changing light, weather and seasons are my main subjects and how I relate to them through my work. Using mixed media allows me to be experimental and expressive, often using physical elements of nature within my work.
